Belleville Market charges a fair commission on all sales to offset our general operating expenses and supplies. Typically, commissions cover payroll and taxes for our Guest Services Associates, customer credit card fees, and cashwrap supplies such a bags, tissue paper, etc. Commission is deducted from the merchant's sales prior to each payout.
As of October 1, 2025, our current standard commission rate for sales is 12%. Standard commission is valid for merchants who also pay a monthly rental fee for their selling spaces.
Standard Commission Rate Change Schedule 2024-2025:
- Effective October 1, 2024: All merchants assigned a standard commission will be charged a 12% commission rate for all sales.
- Effective January 1, 2025: Any merchant whose Merchant Lease Agreement begins January 1, 2025 or later will be charged a 15% standard commission rate for all sales.
- Effective April 1, 2025: All merchants assigned a standard commission will be charged a 15% commission rate for all sales. (please note that this effective date was previously March 1, 2025 and has been delayed by one month)
If you are a merchant who is classified as a commission-only merchant, your commission rate is set at the time of signing your commission agreement unless otherwise stipulated. Likewise, if you are under an agreement where you are charged a standard commission rate and a commission-only rate, please refer to your specific agreement.
