Commission Rates

Commission Rates

Belleville Market charges a commission on all sales to help offset the costs associated with operating the Market and providing a professional retail environment for our merchants and customers.

Commission revenue helps support:
  1. Guest Services payroll and payroll taxes
  2. Credit card processing fees
  3. Point-of-sale and inventory management systems
  4. Shopping bags, tissue paper, and other customer service supplies
  5. Marketing and promotional efforts
  6. General store operations and overhead
Commission is deducted from sales prior to merchant payouts.

Standard Commission Rate

Effective January 1, 2025, the standard commission rate for all Anchor Merchants and Showcase Merchants is 15% of gross sales.

This commission rate applies to merchants who lease selling space and pay a monthly license fee.

Curated Merchants

Merchants participating in Belleville Market's Curated Merchant Program (formerly referred to as Commission-Only Merchants) typically pay a commission rate of 40%.

Because commission structures may vary based on merchandise category, merchandising requirements, and individual agreements, Curated Merchants should refer to their specific Curated Merchant Agreement for their current commission rate and terms.

Historical Commission Changes

As Belleville Market has grown and evolved, our commission structure has been adjusted periodically to reflect rising operating costs, expanded services, and continued investment in the customer experience.

Most recently:
  1. Prior to October 2024, the standard commission rate was below current levels.
  2. Effective October 1, 2024, the standard commission rate increased to 12%.
  3. Effective January 1, 2025, the standard commission rate for new merchants increased to 15%.
  4. Effective April 1, 2025, the 15% commission rate became the standard rate for all Anchor and Showcase Merchants.
These adjustments have allowed Belleville Market to continue investing in staffing, technology, marketing, and operational improvements that benefit all merchants.
