Pricing Integrity & Negotiation Policy

Pricing Integrity & Negotiation Policy

At Belleville Market, we strive to provide a consistent, professional, and transparent shopping experience for every guest. To support this goal, all merchandise is offered at the marked selling price unless a specific sale, promotion, or discount has been previously established and communicated through approved Belleville Market channels.

Our Pricing Philosophy

Belleville Market is not a flea market, auction house, or bargaining environment. We believe merchants should price their products fairly and confidently, and customers should be able to shop knowing that prices are consistent and equitable for everyone.

As a result, individual price negotiations are not permitted.

Customer Requests for Discounts

Guests occasionally ask whether a merchant will accept a lower price for an item. In these situations:
  1. Belleville Market team members will not negotiate pricing on behalf of merchants.
  2. Belleville Market team members will not contact merchants to request discounts on individual items.
  3. The marked price is considered the selling price.
    1. Please note: If an item is advertised with a promotion sign or shelf talker but rings up at the regular price, Belleville Market will honor the advertised promotional price. Likewise, if an item is incorrectly tagged, pricing adjustments may be made at management's discretion to reflect the displayed price.
If a customer wishes to purchase an item, it must be purchased at the advertised price.

Merchant Expectations

Merchants are expected to support and uphold this policy when interacting with guests in the store.

Merchants should not:
  1. Negotiate prices with customers while shopping in Belleville Market.
  2. Offer one-time discounts to individual customers.
  3. Circumvent established pricing by accepting payment outside of Belleville Market systems.
  4. Create inconsistent pricing experiences that may confuse customers or undermine other merchants.
If a merchant wishes to discount merchandise, discounts should be offered through an approved sale or promotion and properly programmed into the Belleville Market POS system in accordance with our Sales & Promotions Guidelines.

Why This Policy Exists

This policy helps:
  1. Maintain fairness and consistency for all customers.
  2. Protect the perceived value of merchandise.
  3. Support merchants who have thoughtfully priced their products.
  4. Eliminate confusion at checkout.
  5. Create a professional retail environment that reflects Belleville Market's standards.

Exceptions

Approved promotions, clearance events, seasonal sales, and other discounts that have been properly established through Belleville Market systems are permitted.

Any exception outside of an established promotion must receive prior approval from Market management.

Summary

The marked price is the selling price.

Belleville Market staff do not negotiate prices, contact merchants for one-time discounts, or participate in individual price bargaining. Merchants are expected to support this policy and utilize approved promotional programs when offering discounts.
