Barcode & Label Printing Standards
To maintain consistency, ensure scannability at checkout, and uphold Belleville Market’s professional merchandising standards, all barcodes and price labels must meet the following requirements. These standards apply to all printed labels generated through ConsignCloud.
1. Barcode Requirements
- Every item must have a scannable barcode attached directly to the item or its packaging.
- Barcodes must be printed using ConsignCloud’s approved templates and corresponding label sizes.
- Do not resize, stretch, or crop barcode labels to fit different tag types or designs — this can distort the barcode and make it unreadable by our scanners.
- If the item has a manufacturer’s barcode, refer to the separate guideline on Entering Items with Manufacturer UPCs in ConsignCloud for proper setup and price labeling.
- Each barcode should be unique to the specific SKU to ensure accurate inventory tracking and sales reporting.
2. Print Quality Standards
- Always use a thermal printer or high-quality laser printer to ensure barcodes are crisp and durable.
- Avoid using inkjet printers, as the ink can smudge or fade over time.
- Use black ink on white labels only — colored labels or tinted backgrounds may interfere with scanning.
- Before applying, inspect a sample from each print batch to ensure all barcodes are fully legible and scan correctly.
Please note: a test label using your printer should be presented to Merchant Support prior tagging your initial batch of items.
3. Label Placement
- Place labels in a consistent and visible location on each item.
- Avoid corners, textured surfaces, or curved areas that may cause the barcode to wrinkle or peel.
- When using hang tags, attach them neatly and ensure the barcode remains flat and unobstructed.
- For boxed or packaged products, affix the barcode directly to the exterior packaging whenever possible.
4. Reprinting & Maintenance
- If a barcode becomes damaged, faded, or unscannable, reprint and replace it immediately.
- Keep spare labels on hand for quick replacement during restocks or display refreshes.
- If you encounter consistent scanning issues, contact Belleville Market Merchant Support for troubleshooting assistance.
5. Consistency & Professionalism
- Use the same label format across all items to create a consistent presentation.
- Ensure barcodes and printed information (price,UPC, etc.) are straight, evenly placed, and free from smudges or misprints.
- A well-labeled product not only improves operational accuracy but also reflects the high merchandising standards of Belleville Market.
Summary:
Consistent, scannable, and professional barcode labels are essential for accurate sales tracking and the overall guest experience. Always use the approved ConsignCloud label formats, maintain print quality, and replace damaged labels promptly. Following these standards ensures that every transaction is smooth and every product meets Belleville Market’s presentation expectations.
