Product Category Structure for ConsignCloud and Shopify

To help improve organization, reporting, merchandising, and Shopify synchronization, all merchants should assign products to the most appropriate category listed below when entering inventory into Consign Cloud. 

Please choose the category that best represents the primary use of the item.


Core Product Categories

Fashion: New

New adult apparel and fashion accessories.
Examples: Men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, handbags, belts, scarves, socks, hats, fashion accessories.

Fashion: Vintage

Vintage or pre-owned adult fashion and accessories.
Examples: Vintage apparel, retro jackets, used handbags, vintage denim, secondhand fashion.

Jewelry

All jewelry and wearable adornments.
Examples: Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches, pins, hair accessories.

Baby & Kids

Products intended for babies, children, or family gifting.
Examples: Children’s apparel, baby accessories, toys, nursery décor, kids’ books, baby gifts.

Home

General home décor and home living products.
Examples: Candles, wall décor, vases, lamps, decorative objects, textiles, baskets, everyday home accents.

Kitchen & Tabletop

Kitchen, dining, entertaining, and tabletop essentials.
Examples: Cookware, bakeware, bar tools, kitchen gadgets, serving pieces, mugs, glassware, utensils.

Food & Drink

Packaged consumable food and beverage items.
Examples: Coffee, tea, spices, sauces, snacks, chocolate, mixers, specialty foods, bottled beverages.

Bath & Body

Personal care, wellness, and beauty products.
Examples: Soap, lotion, skincare, makeup, bath products, toothpaste, fragrances, wellness essentials.

Stationery, Books, & Creative

New books, paper goods, and creative supplies.
Examples: New books, notebooks, journals, pens, greeting cards, wrapping paper, paint supplies, art materials, gift supplies.

Books: Vintage & Used

Used, collectible, or vintage books only.
Examples: Antique books, used novels, vintage cookbooks, collectible publications.

Media: Vintage & Used

Vintage or pre-owned physical media.
Examples: Vinyl records, VHS tapes, DVDs, cassette tapes, CDs, retro media.

Toys & Games

Games, hobbies, puzzles, and recreational items.
Examples: Board games, puzzles, dominoes, card games, novelty toys, hobby kits.

Pet

Pet-related products and accessories.
Examples: Pet toys, treats, collars, bowls, pet décor, grooming products.

Vintage & Found

General vintage, antique, salvaged, or found objects that do not fit another department. Non-fashion items only.
Examples: Vintage décor, antiques, collectibles, architectural salvage, found objects, retro housewares.

Travel

Travel, outdoor, and on-the-go essentials.
Examples: Luggage, backpacks, overnight bags, tote bags, travel accessories, hiking essentials.

Hardware & Utility

Functional household and utility products.
Examples: Cleaning products, cleaning tools, hardware, knobs, tools, storage solutions, utility items.

Seasonal Categories

Seasonal: Christmas

All Christmas and winter holiday-related merchandise.
Examples: Ornaments, holiday décor, stockings, festive gifts, vintage Christmas collectibles.

Seasonal: Harvest

Harvest and autumn-themed merchandise.
Examples: Fall décor, pumpkins, Thanksgiving-inspired items, harvest-themed home goods.

Seasonal: Halloween

Halloween-themed merchandise and décor.
Examples: Costumes, spooky décor, vintage Halloween collectibles, themed accessories.

Seasonal: Spring & Summer

Spring and summer seasonal merchandise.
Examples: Outdoor décor, picnic accessories, garden-inspired items, summer entertaining goods.


General Guidelines

Select the category that best reflects the item's primary purpose.
  1. Vintage fashion should always use Fashion: Vintage rather than Vintage & Found.
  2. Vintage/used books and media should use their dedicated categories.
  3. Seasonal merchandise should use the appropriate seasonal category whenever applicable.
  4. If an item fits multiple categories, choose the department that represents its primary purpose.
