Security Cameras

Purpose & Overview

Belleville Market is committed to creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all guests, staff, and merchants. A key part of this commitment is protecting the privacy and comfort of our guests while maintaining effective loss prevention. To achieve this, Belleville Market operates a centrally managed network of security cameras throughout the store, designed to deter theft, protect merchandise, and ensure overall safety—without compromising guest privacy.

How Our Security System Works

  1. Centrally Managed Network: Belleville Market operates a combination of real and dummy cameras strategically placed to monitor public areas and sales floors. Cameras do not monitor private spaces such as restrooms, break rooms, or offices.
  2. Signage & Transparency: Guests are informed via strategically placed signage throughout the Market that security cameras are in use. This transparency helps maintain trust and ensures guests feel comfortable while shopping.
  3. Monitoring & Response: Camera footage is accessed only by authorized personnel and stored securely for a limited period. Footage is reviewed only when there is a security concern or incident.
  4. Safety Integration: Beyond loss prevention, the system supports emergency response to protect both guests and staff, while maintaining the highest standards of privacy.

Merchant Guidelines

  1. No Personal Cameras or Surveillance Devices: To protect guest privacy and maintain a consistent shopping experience, individual cameras, microphones, or other recording devices are strictly prohibited in selling areas.
  2. Signage in Merchant Spaces: Merchants are strongly encouraged not to post signage warning guests that they are being recorded (e.g., “You’re on camera” or “Smile, you’re being recorded”) as a shoplifting deterrent. Such signage can feel invasive and undermine guest trust. Belleville Market maintains strict standards for market-wide signage. If you would like market-approved signage added to your space, please contact Merchant Support.
  3. Support for Security Concerns: If suspicious behavior occurs in your space, contact Belleville Market management immediately. We will address the situation safely and professionally without compromising guest privacy.
  4. Merchants’ Role: Keep displays tidy and visible to maximize coverage and assist in loss prevention. Promptly reporting incidents ensures a proactive approach while upholding privacy standards.

Why This Matters

At Belleville Market, guest privacy is a top priority. Our security measures are designed to protect merchandise and staff while ensuring guests feel comfortable and respected. By following these guidelines, merchants help maintain a secure, professional, and welcoming environment that prioritizes trust, safety, and a positive shopping experience for all.
