To ensure a safe, secure, and efficient environment for all, we have established the following guidelines for the use of the backroom at Belleville Market:
Purpose of the Backroom
The backroom is an active workspace used by Market staff for ongoing projects, store operations, and daily tasks. It is not intended as a holding area or overflow space for merchant use.
What’s Not Permitted
Merchants may not leave any items unattended in the backroom while working at the shop. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Carts
- Bins or boxes
- Props or displays
- Product/merchandise of any kind
With over 90 merchants in the Market, we manage shared spaces with the understanding that if we allow one, we must allow all. This guideline helps ensure fairness, safety, and operational efficiency.
Temporary Staging – By Permission Only
Merchants may request to use the backroom as a temporary staging area (up to 30 minutes) when loading or unloading through the back door. This is only permitted:
- During non-peak times (not during busy shopping hours)
- With advance permission from Market Administration
- While maintaining a clear, accessible path between the back door and the entrance to PARC
- And only when items are attended and in active use
Need More Space?
Merchants in need of additional space beyond their selling area may inquire about monthly basement storage rentals. Contact Merchant Support for availability and rates.
By following these guidelines, you help us keep Belleville Market running smoothly, safely, and equitably for all. Thank you for your cooperation.
